NBGS Meetings & Events

Most meetings include a guest speaker on a topic of interest to the branch, plus the opportunity to ask questions or chat with others about your research. All are welcome to attend.

Most of our meetings are hybrid. You can attend branch meetings in-person; or via Zoom from anywhere. Login to access the Zoom link. Clicking the link automatically places you in the waiting room until the host can admit you to the meeting.

Use of Genealogy in Character Research at Kings Landing

In her role as Heritage Resource Manager at Kings Landing, one of Evelyn’s roles is to provide the research for all of the characters that are interpreting the history of the village. For over ten years she has compiled hundreds of biography sketches using genealogical research sources. In this presentation she will take you through the methods, successes and challenges of piecing together the lives and mind sets of people who lived along the Saint John River Valley in the 18th to 20th century.

Evelyn Fidler is the Heritage Resource Manager for Kings Landing. She has been involved in the archive and museum field for over 40 years in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Evelyn graduated with an MA in History and a Post Secondary Diploma in Material History from UNB in 1992. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, her planter family is so well documented so she gets to enjoy solving Genealogical puzzles for others. Evelyn now lives in Island View, has two grown sons and two cats and loves to volunteer, read and coach youth sports.

Let’s celebrate the New Genealogical Year 2026 with a Zoom “Show and Share”. Participants are invited to bring memorabilia that celebrates their ancestors, and/or the history of Charlotte County and New Brunswick. Memorabilia can be in the form of physical items (medals, toys, tools, etc.), photos, or stories. For easier viewing online, consider sending your photos, or pictures of your items ahead of time to Karen at kabo3731@gmail.com . All members of NBGS are invited to grab a drink, a snack, and a memory to join us in toasting this new year of discovery.

Location St Luke's Church, Main St, Saint John. Use the parking lot off Metcalf St, and ring the doorbell.

David Fraser will lead a discussion on various ways to store your family tree online. We will be asking for input from members during this discussion.

This meeting is also the branch Annual General Meeting.
